“The natural process of breastfeeding may not always come naturally.”

For many new moms, this revelation can be sobering and debilitating during one of life’s most cherished seasons of becoming a mother. The good news is it does not have to be!

Lactation Consultant and Midwife for CMG Women’s Center, Rochelle Morgan, CNM, is ready and willing to educate, support, and encourage new mothers on proper latch, milk production, newborn weight gain, pumping, and general lactation questions.

“My job ranges from the simple task of giving reassurance to new mothers, to addressing the more complicated medical related issues that can need assistance,” Morgan explained. “Lactation consultants are a great resource on breastfeeding, and our sole job is to help make the breastfeeding experience a success.”

Morgan shares that lactation concerns are best met early in the breastfeeding process with, in most cases, simple steps or corrections. Once education is in place, the benefits of successful breastfeeding are worth the effort.

“Breastmilk is the best food source for any baby, it gives the baby a significant amount of antibodies to help fight common cold and viruses, and it allows for the continuation of bonding for mother and baby.” Morgan said.

The fourth annual Milkapalooza, a community breastfeeding celebration will be held Saturday, August 21 from 5-8 pm at HumanKind.  It is a collaboration between The Motherhood Collective and CMG Women & Children’s Services to celebrate community breastfeeding success and increased public breastfeeding awareness with live music, local food trucks, and a public ‘latch-on’ at 6:30 pm.
